We have nine adult hens, two toms, and
five junior birds in our Narragansett flock.
Here are some of our young birds to the
right and below.
Narragansett - Rare Breed Heritage Turkeys.
When colonists came to America they bred the
turkeys they brought from Europe to the
Eastern Wild Turkey, resulting in the oldest
American turkey breed -  the Narragansett.
Abraham Lincoln was once given a gift of these
turkeys from the citizens of Rhode Island.
Originally developed in the Narragansett Bay
area, they are now a rare breed and in need of
protection.

Narragansetts are considered to be Heritage
Turkeys. This means they must exhibit three
qualities - they must be able to breed naturally,
live seven to nine years, and grow slowly. A
Narrangasett tom takes up to 28 weeks to reach
full maturity and butchering size.

The hens make excellent mothers. The flock will
free range without straying too far from home.
They thrive on insects. They are a gentle and
docile bird.

We are offering hatching eggs for sale. Please
