| This is the national breed of Switzerland. It has existed there for centuries. The feathers of the crest should be forward facing, because according to Feathersite.com, Spitzhauben means pointed hat or bonnet. With their crest, V-comb, and black and white, spangled plumage, these birds are very attractive to look at and are among the friendliest chickens we have. They are very good foragers if they are allowed to free-range. It took me almost a year to find these birds and two years to build up our flock to 15 laying hens and five roosters. They are prolific layers of a medium to large white egg. They do not go "broody" or set on their own eggs. I intend to increase our flock size and add new blood again in 2008.
