| This is "Phoenix", our little miracle girl! Phoenix was born on March 7th 2005 to our young grade Nubian doeling, Ashley. Ashley presented us with twins. The buckling was strong and healthy but this tiny doeling was as limp as a rag doll. My sons rushed her inside where we proceeded to try and warm her up. Suddenly she spasmed and stopped breathing, eyes glazing over. I have never attempted "mouth to mouth" resuscitation on a goat before but figured I had nothing to lose! Three puffs and she finally began to breath again. She was too weak to suck, so we decided to let her die peacefully. We wrapped her in a towel, placed her on our old couch downstairs and went to bed. About an hour later my husband came home from work. Noticing her and not knowing the story, he grabbed the bottle of colostrum sitting there and fed her a couple of mouthfuls. He placed her in a box with shredded paper and went to bed. At six the next morning, a loud and demanding voice woke everyone in the house. Little Phoenix was on her feet - she wanted her milk and she wanted it now! My fourteen year old son was up and feeding her before I could get downstairs on my crutches! "Phoenix" was sired by our purebred Nubian buck Alf. With her mother being called Ashley, we considered the name doubly appropriate! Just goes to show that where there is life - there is hope! Phoenix has gone to live with a young lady named Jenna to be her 4H project . Jenna calls her "Ashes". A great ending to a rough beginning! |

| It's a girl, a boy, a girl, a girl, a girl! 'Mother Nature's been giving us more doelings than bucklings this year and you won't find us complaining. Here are some photos of our newest 2006 additions! |
